Experience the magic of the old growth forest and seaside vistas that inspired the enigmatic art of
Emily Carr. Continue on through the heritage community in which she grew up and explore the Art
Gallery of Greater Victoria. Here you will be provided with an interpretive viewing of Emily's paintings.

Throughout the day you will hear colourful stories about this unique woman and the independent path
through life that she chose.

Jewel Box Garden Arbour with its fragrant evergreen Clematis armandii. Two one hundred year old apple trees anchor a border featuring a rainbow of hellebores combined with a collection of wonderful companion plants. Surrounding a heritage cottage, under ancient apple trees is a garden that combines extensive collections of hellebores, cyclamens, snowdrops and euphorbias with other perennials, including wonderful foliage plants, and shrubs to create layered artistic borders of year round interest. Complimenting the ambiance of the home and garden are carefully selected containers and art.. The enthusiastic gardening couple that have created this exquisite garden still find time to volunteer at Government House and with an international seed exchange program.   A brick edged path offers the perfect formal balance to the naturalistic woodland planting. In March, this lush carpeting includes the dog’s tooth violets (Erythronium) and the blue violet blooms of the native shooting star combining with the blue and white blooms of anemone nermosa. Hellebore hybrids combined with peony Molly-the-Witch (paeonia mlokosewitshii) its pink toned foliage continues to provide interest long after its primrose yellow blooms are finished. Hellebore argutifolius hybrid with dark leafed hardy geranium (cranesbill). A classic stone container features a collection of drought tolerant hardy succulents that once more have been selected to provide year round interest with their different foliage colours and textures. Hardy sedums, with their usefulness for planting on the trend setting green roofs, have stayed popular for 2005. A delightful selection of pink and rose coloured hellebores, as well as a sublime double white specimen artfully combined with other early perennials such as the white dicentra ( bleeding heart ). Companion plants including heucheras, primulas, dicentra (bleeding heart ), ferns, pulmonaria, and various cranesbill geraniums including G. phaeum 'Sambour' with its wonderful foliage. Chautruse hits by the collection of euphorbias including Eurphorbia characias ssp. Wulfenii ‘John Tomlinson.’ A vigerous specimen of Corsican Hellebore (Helleborus argutifolius).
